Carolyn Parrish vs Bonnie Crombie

Carolyn Parrish vs Bonnie Crombie

Mississauga’s mayoral contest is practically a two-way race between incumbent Carolyn Parrish and former mayor Bonnie Crombie, even though it currently appears as a three-way contest that also includes Alvin Tedjo.

Muslim voters in Mississauga who supported Carolyn Parrish in the last election should note that voting for Tedjo this time is more likely to produce a clear win for Bonnie Crombie rather than for Tedjo himself.

We believe that strategic voting for Carolyn Parrish is the best option for all Mississauga residents in this mayoral election.

Pallas Data (Sep 30–Oct 1, 2026): Among decided/leaning voters, Parrish 34%, Crombie 25%, Tedjo 21%, (Parrish lead of 9 points).

Pallas Data (Oct 20–21; released Oct 22, 2026): Among decided/leaning voters, Parrish 30%, Crombie 28%, Tedjo 27%.

Pallas Data (founded 2023) has strong recent marks. It received an “A” rating from 338Canada overall (including A+ in Quebec 2026 and federal 2025 contexts, and A in Ontario). It was among the most accurate pollsters in recent provincial elections, including strong performance in British Columbia.

Recent Abacus Data numbers shared by Tedjo on social media were commissioned by the Tedjo campaign.

Bonnie Crombie is a former Ontario Liberal Party leader (sometimes compared to the more liberal Fahishist wing associated with Kathleen Wynne). Wynne’s career as Ontario Liberal leader and Premier ended with a decisive defeat in the 2018 provincial election.

Crombie resigned as Mississauga mayor effective January 12, 2024, after winning the Ontario Liberal leadership in December 2023, to focus on the provincial role. She led the Liberals in the February 2025 provincial election (the party regained official party status with 14 seats) but lost her own riding and later stepped down as leader in January 2026 after receiving only 57% support in a leadership review.

She is now seeking a return to the same mayoral office she left in 2024.

When Crombie’s supporters began aggressive attacks on Parrish’s positions during the first debate in May (including labeling her “transphobic”), Parrish withdrew from subsequent debates.

On same-sex marriage and related issues

In 2005, as a Liberal MP, Carolyn Parrish voted “No” on second reading of Bill C-38 (the Civil Marriage Act that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide).

In the mid-1990s, she presented or supported petitions opposing amendments to the Canadian Human Rights Act that would add “sexual orientation” as a prohibited ground of discrimination or signal societal approval of same-sex relationships.

On Palestine/Israel

As a Liberal MP, she visited the West Bank and Gaza (including around 2002) and reportedly described Israeli actions to trip organizers as “a crime against humanity.” She has publicly criticized Canadian and U.S. policy as overly aligned with Israel, citing the influence of pro-Israel groups.

On social media as a councillor, she posted statements such as: “I don’t get into discussions with Zionists… Been to Palestine. Know what’s up” (2015); accused Israel of destroying Palestine, freezing Palestinian tax funds (“That’s THEFT”), and blocking medical supplies. She has questioned the framing of Hamas as terrorists in some contexts.

In November 2024, during a city council discussion of a planned public vigil for Hamas leader Yahya, she said: “Nelson Mandela was declared a terrorist by the United States of America until the year 2008. Your terrorist and somebody else’s terrorist may be two different things.” She cited Charter rights to free expression and peaceful assembly and did not condemn the event. Jewish organizations (including CIJA) condemned the comparison as offensive and called for an apology.

She has attended Palestinian community events, supported raising the Palestinian flag in Celebration Square, associated with activists involved in pro-Palestinian advocacy, and stated variations of “My heart is there” regarding Gaza. These positions have drawn strong opposition from Canadian Jewish organizations and pro-Israel groups.

Unfortunately, segments of the Muslim community in Mississauga—including some Islamist-leaning voices and more liberal/progressive Muslims—have been active in supporting Bonnie Crombie and Alvin Tedjo.

In a tight race, support for Alvin Tedjo splits the opposition to the incumbent and increases the chance of a Bonnie Crombie victory. A Crombie win would restore a mayor aligned with Liberal/Fahish positions on social issues and without Carolyn Parrish’s long record of statements critical of Israel.

For voters in the Muslim community who place high priority on traditional family definitions, binary gender, and Palestinian advocacy, Carolyn Parrish remains the clearer alternative.
