“Let there be a group among you who call ˹others˺ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful.” [Quran; Surah Al-e- Imran (3:104)]

You are the best community ever raised for humanity—you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. [Quran, Surah Al-e- Imran (3:110)]

“O my dear son! Establish prayer, encourage what is good and forbid what is evil, and endure patiently whatever befalls you. Surely this is a resolve to aspire to. [Quran; Surah Luqman (31): 17]

The believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another. They encourage good and forbid evil, establish prayer and pay alms-tax, and obey Allah and His Messenger. It is they who will be shown Allah’s mercy. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. [Quran; Surah At-Tawbah (9):71]

It is the believers˺ who repent, who are devoted to worship, who praise ˹their Lord˺, who fast, who bow down and prostrate themselves, who encourage good and forbid evil, and who observe the limits set by Allah. And give good news to the believers. [Quran; Surah At-Tawbah (9):112]

The disbelievers among the Children of Israel were condemned in the revelations of David and Jesus, son of Mary. That was for their disobedience and violations. They did not forbid one another from doing evil. Evil indeed was what they did! [Quran; Surah Al-Ma’idah (5)-78-79]

Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand. If he is unable to do so, then with his tongue. If he is unable to do so, then with his heart—and that is the weakest level of faith. (Hadith, Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Iman, Bab Bayan anna al-nahi 'an al-munkar min al-Iman..., p. 44, Hadith: 78(49))(1)

...It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my life! You will either surely enjoin good and forbid evil, or it is near that Allah Almighty will send upon you a punishment from Himself; then you will supplicate to Him against it, but your supplication will not be accepted." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Fitan, Bab ma ja'a fi al-amr bil-ma'ruf wal-nahi 'an al-munkar, vol. 4, p. 69, Hadith: 2169)

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Most Holy Presence (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "You will surely enjoin good and forbid evil, or Allah Almighty will impose upon you from among yourselves wicked people; then your righteous people will supplicate, but it will not be accepted." (Hadith; Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat by at-Tabarani, Bab al-Alif, min ismi Ahmad, vol. 1, p. 377, Hadith: 1379)

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Leader of the Two Worlds (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "It is not right for a person who can speak the truth while standing in a position of authority not to say it, because speaking the truth neither hastens his death nor deprives him of his decreed sustenance." (Hadith; Shu'ab al-Iman by al-Bayhaqi, al-Thani wal-Khamsun min Shu'ab al-Iman, vol. 6, p. 92, Hadith: 7579)

It is narrated from Hazrat al-Urs bin Amira al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Lord of the Worlds (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "When a sin is committed on the earth, whoever is present there but dislikes it is like the one who is absent from it, and whoever is absent from it but approves of it is like the one who is present there." (Hadith; Sunan Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Malahim, Bab al-Amr wal-Nahi, vol. 4, p. 166, Hadith: 4345)

Ali al-Murtada (may Allah honor his noble face) said: Enjoining good deeds and forbidding evil is the best jihad. (Tafsir Madarik al-Tanzil, Surah Al Imran, under Ayah 104, p. 178)

Hazrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Speaking the truth in front of a sultan or a tyrannical ruler is the most superior jihad. (Hadith; Sunan Abu Dawood, Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah)

Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever sins while living among a people, and those people are capable of forbidding him from the sin but do not forbid it, then Allah Almighty will afflict all of them with punishment before they die.
